West Virginia has had its share of political corruption and scandal but nothing beats the brainwashing of Americans into believing they have to vote based on which Political Party a candidate registers with. Now that the Democrats are considering opening their primary ballot to those registered as Independents maybe the people will gain control of their government on all levels. There was a time candidates took their views seriously and didn't just position themselves for re-election. Ashley Riffle was recently nominated by her history  teacher, Mr. Fred Ware, to the Congressional Youth Leadership Council this past December. In May Ashley received a letter from the NYLC explaining that her nomination was approved. Her nomination was based on her 3.8 GPA while participating in several extra-curricular activities and over 100 hours of community service during the 2006-2007 academic year. An invitation to be a part of the National Youth Leadership Conference in October was also extended to Riffle. Riffle will be a sophomore this year and is currently raising the funds needed to participate in the October Conference while also volunteering at Mon General Hospital.
